any2.video vs a Video Agency: What You Get for a Shoot Day, and What You Get for a Finished Minute

A video agency sells production craft priced by the day. That is the right purchase for a brand film or a launch video, and a poor fit for a library of task walkthroughs that has to stay accurate from release to release.

When a video agency is the right choice

  • You are making a brand film, a customer story or a funding announcement, and it needs to move people more than prove anything.
  • The video has people in it who need directing.
  • You need one exceptional piece for a keynote, and the whole budget is for craft.
  • You want a creative partner who will challenge your positioning. That is worth paying for, and we do not offer it.

When it is not

  • You need forty videos, and all of them are screens.
  • The content goes out of date every six weeks because your product ships every six weeks.
  • Your sales engineer's time is the bottleneck, and a shoot day uses exactly that.
  • What matters is the unexciting middle of the task more than the opening shot.

The cost missing from the invoice

Agency quotes describe the agency's time. Whether a software video programme survives depends on your own engineer's afternoons, which appear on nobody's estimate. The expensive part of a product walkthrough is knowing which menu holds the setting, and an agency has to borrow that knowledge from you for every project.

We have no crew, no studio and no shoot dates, so the cost goes into the work itself, which is operating the product and checking the result.

Where an agency will beat us

An agency wins wherever craft is what you are buying. A well-made brand film has a shape, a rhythm and a point of view, and it comes from people who make films for a living. If you want viewers to be moved more than convinced, hire them. We will not make you a better founder story.

Using both

A common arrangement is an agency for the two or three flagship pieces each year, with a verified library underneath covering the tasks the flagship film only hints at. Marketing video production for software companies explains how the work divides.

Questions

Can you do our launch video?

We can make the part that shows the product doing the job, in designed or live mode. If the launch video tells the company's story with faces in it, hire an agency.

Do we still need our agency?

Probably, for the flagship pieces. The two do different jobs, and a programme can run both at once.
