AI SOP Generators Compared: Eight Tools That Write Standard Operating Procedures, With Prices (October 2026)
AI SOP generators write standard operating procedures in one of three ways: from a screen capture of someone doing the task (Scribe, Tango, Guidde, Glitter AI), from a prompt describing the process (Trainual, Waybook, SweetProcess, Process Street), or from an existing video (Glitter AI). This page compares eight of them, with free plans and prices checked on 3 October 2026.
Part of our guide to AI Video Marketing for Software Products.
An AI SOP generator writes a standard operating procedure for you: the numbered steps someone follows to do a task the same way every time. The tools differ in where the steps come from. Capture-based tools watch you do the task once and write what happened. Prompt-based tools draft a procedure from a description. One tool here also turns an existing recording into steps. Where the steps come from decides how much you can trust them.
We compared eight tools from their own pricing pages on 3 October 2026. Prices are in US dollars as displayed; Trainual and Process Street publish no plan prices.

What is an AI SOP generator?
An AI SOP generator is software that drafts a standard operating procedure automatically, either by recording someone performing the task and writing the steps from the capture, or by generating the steps from a prompt or template. The output is a step-by-step document, sometimes with screenshots or a video, that people can follow, search and update.
Capture-based: Scribe, Tango, Guidde, Glitter AI
These write the SOP from a real run of the task, so the steps match what the software actually did on that day. Scribe and Tango produce written guides with screenshots; Guidde produces a narrated video and a document; Glitter AI records screen and voice and also converts uploaded videos, such as a meeting recording, into guides. All four have free plans. Their limit is the one every recording shares: the procedure is correct for the version it was captured on.
Prompt-based: Trainual, Waybook, SweetProcess, Process Street
These generate a procedure from a description or a title, then let you edit it, assign it and track who completed it. They are documentation and training platforms first: Trainual and Waybook organise SOPs into training paths and tests, SweetProcess adds task tracking and knowledge bases, and Process Street turns procedures into runnable checklists with approvals. None has a free plan. A prompt-written SOP has never been run, so someone must follow it once before anyone relies on it.
What is the best AI SOP generator?
For SOPs of software tasks, a capture-based tool, because the steps come from a real run: Scribe or Tango for written guides, Guidde when the SOP should be a video, Glitter AI if you already have recordings to convert. For company-wide procedures that are not done on a screen, such as policies and handovers, a prompt-based platform like Waybook or SweetProcess, with someone checking each draft.
Is there a free AI SOP generator?
Yes, among the capture-based tools: Scribe's Basic plan works in the browser, Tango allows five shared workflows, Guidde 25 videos with a watermark, and Glitter AI 10 guides with 5-minute recordings. The prompt-based platforms here offer trials, not free plans.
How do you write an SOP with AI?
Run the task once while a capture tool records it, or describe it to a prompt-based tool. Then check the draft against reality: follow every step on a clean setup, rename each step by the exact button or field, add what should happen after it, and add the step people get wrong. Our step-by-step instructions guide has a free template for exactly that check.
Where a verified walkthrough fits
An SOP generated from a capture is a record of one run; one generated from a prompt is a plan nobody has run yet. For software procedures that customers or auditors rely on, the stronger record carries the version, the checked result and the failure, like the Proxmox VE 9.2 install. Our comparison of tutorial software covers the neighbouring tools.
