Product Tour Software Compared: In-App Onboarding Tours and Website Demo Tours, With Prices (October 2026)

Product tour software means two different things: in-app onboarding tours shown to signed-in users (Appcues, Userpilot, Pendo, Chameleon, Userflow, Intro.js) and website demo tours shown to prospects (Navattic, Storylane, Supademo, Arcade). This page compares ten tools across both, with free plans and prices checked on 3 October 2026.

Part of our guide to Product Video for Software Companies.

Product tour software is used for two different jobs, and the tools rarely overlap. In-app onboarding tours run inside your product and guide signed-in users with tooltips, modals and checklists; they are usually priced by monthly active users. Website product tours are clickable copies of your interface embedded on a marketing site for prospects who have not signed up; they are usually priced per seat. Decide which job you have before comparing prices.

We compared ten tools from their own pricing pages on 3 October 2026, six for in-app tours and four for website tours. Prices are in US dollars as displayed; several in-app vendors publish only an entry price or none.

Two kinds of product tour software: in-app onboarding tours for signed-in users, inside the app, mostly priced by monthly active users, from Appcues, Userpilot, Pendo, Chameleon, Userflow and Intro.js; and website demo tours for prospects, a clickable copy on the website, priced by seat, from Navattic, Storylane, Supademo and Arcade
Same name, two different products.

What is product tour software?

Product tour software builds guided, step-by-step walkthroughs of a software product. In-app tour tools overlay tooltips, modals and checklists on your live product for signed-in users, without code. Website tour tools capture your interface as a clickable demo that prospects explore on your site. Both show a path through the product; neither proves that a task finishes on a given version.

In-app onboarding tours

Appcues, Userpilot, Pendo, Chameleon and Userflow all build tours without code in a visual editor, target them at user segments, and measure completion. They differ in what else comes bundled. Pendo and Userpilot pair tours with product analytics, and Pendo is the only one with a free plan, up to 500 monthly active users. Userflow includes unlimited experiences and team members on every plan. Chameleon and Userflow both advertise AI that builds a flow from a description or a click-through.

Intro.js is the code option: a small JavaScript library where developers define tour steps in code. It is free under the AGPL licence, and closed-source commercial use needs a paid licence, from $9.99 for one project. There is no hosted builder, targeting or analytics, so engineers maintain the tours.

Website demo tours

Navattic, Storylane, Supademo and Arcade capture your web app with a browser extension and turn it into a clickable demo for a marketing site, a sales email or a launch. All four have a free plan with one to five demos. They differ in capture method and price: Navattic captures HTML on every plan, while Storylane and Supademo add HTML demos on higher tiers. Our interactive demo software comparison covers them in depth.

What is the best product tour software?

For onboarding inside a product with analytics included, Pendo or Userpilot; Pendo is the one to try free. For many experiences and seats at a published price, Userflow. For a developer-maintained tour with no subscription, Intro.js. For tours on your marketing website, Navattic if you want HTML capture from the start, Storylane or Supademo for the lowest published entry price.

Is there free product tour software?

Yes. Pendo Free covers in-app guides and analytics for up to 500 monthly active users. Intro.js is free for open-source projects under the AGPL. For website tours, Navattic and Storylane each allow one free demo, Arcade one demo and one video, and Supademo five demos. The other in-app tools offer trials, not free plans.

What makes a good product tour?

One task per tour, as few steps as finish it, and an ending the user can recognise as done. Show the tour when the user needs that task, not on first login for everyone. Keep it in step with releases: a tour pinned to a button that moved is worse than no tour. For new users specifically, our onboarding video examples show the same principles in video.

Where a walkthrough video fits

Tours guide someone through the path. They do not show the job running, the result being checked or the error a user will hit. For evaluators and for tasks that happen outside the browser, a recorded walkthrough of the real task is the complement, like the Proxmox VE 9.2 install in our library. For the sales side of the same question, see sales demo software.
