Video Documentation for Hardware and Appliance Vendors, Including Air-Gapped Systems

When a task involves a rack, a cable, a firmware image on a USB stick or a machine with no route to the internet, there is no screen to record. Slide-Rendered mode builds a narrated walkthrough from the run log, the manufacturer's documentation and photographs taken on site, and says openly that it was rendered and not filmed.

This is for you if

  • Field engineers or customers carry out physical installation, replacement or firmware steps.
  • The environment is air-gapped, classified or otherwise offline.
  • You have engineering photographs, rack diagrams or a manual we can build from.
  • Turnover among field engineers means the same procedure keeps being taught again.

It is not, if

  • There is nothing to build from, with no manual, no photographs and no written procedure.
  • You need a film crew on site with your hardware, which is a job for an agency.

What Slide-Rendered mode is

It is a narrated video built from source material: the steps in the order they were performed, photographs of each state and the manual's own figures, with the version and date on screen. It is not a screen recording, and we never describe it as one. Only Live Operation produces a verified walkthrough, and every page on this site keeps to that.

It follows the same rules as a live run: one task, stated prerequisites, an end state you can point to, and the steps that go wrong left in.

Air-gapped systems

For isolated systems, the run happens on site on the isolated machine, and the video is put together afterwards from the log and the photographs. Only the record of what was done leaves the environment, and your team reviews it before anything is published.

Where it pays off

  • Replacement procedures that a field engineer performs once a year and has to relearn each time.
  • Firmware upgrade sequences where getting the order wrong is the whole risk.
  • Racking, cabling and power-on procedures shipped with the appliance, in the customer's language.

Questions

Is a Slide-Rendered video verified?

No, and we will not call it one. Only Live Operation produces a verified walkthrough. A Slide-Rendered video is built from the run log, photographs and the manual, and its page says so.

What do you need from us to start?

We need the procedure as currently written, photographs or diagrams of each state, and someone who can confirm the order of operations. If a real run took place, we also need its log.
